About CorkShare

What is CorkShare?

CorkShare is a way to visually share web content like notes, photos, videos, and more with small groups of friends or colleagues. Modeled after physical bulletin boards, users of CorkShare create virtual CorkBoards, post embeddable content from around the Internet, and discuss these objects in a fun and simple way.

Where did the idea come from?

The idea for CorkShare arose from problems with the current ways to share web content.

Sharing videos, photos, links, and documents through an email chain is a time-consuming task and difficult to follow visually. The conversation goes all over the place and is hard to track down later.

On sites such as Facebook or Twitter, the default action is to "shout" the link to everyone on my friend list. However, the vast majority of content I share is only relevant to a certain smaller group of people.

CorkShare sits between these two extremes and is flexible. Everything is focused on small groups of people with the CorkBoard as a common space.

The original idea came about on a car trip to Startup Weekend in July 2008. While trying to think of ideas to pitch to the crowd, and while talking about Facebook, we became frustrated with how difficult it was to share content with one another. CorkShare was met with enthusiastic response as Startup Weekend Columbus organizer Chris Anderson stated "it was remarkable what these students accomplished in only one weekend"
